We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor on 20th September. He was greeted on the red carpet by the Student Council (their first official duty of 2023 -24!) and classes from 3rd to 6th welcomed Cllr. McCarthy to our school hall with a beautiful rendition of ‘What a Wonderful World.’
The Lord Mayor spoke to us about following our passions and reminded us to be curious – he delighted us with the story of how a teacher had once encouraged him to discover the history of our beautiful city and how he went on to uncover the story of Cork for himself.
He showed us the beautiful chain of office inscribed with the Latin, ‘Statio Bene Fide Carinis’ meaning ‘Safe Harbour for Ships’ and answered all our questions including a query about whether he would run for the presidency!
