St Brigid is one of the patron saints of Ireland and today, February 1st, is her feast day. Her symbol is the St Brigid’s Cross. It is made out of rushes which are weaved together.
One day St Brigid went to the King of Leinster to ask for land to build a church. The King responded by saying she could have as much land as her cloak would cover. St Brigid laid down her cloak on the ground and it grew and grew until it covered acres of fertile land, much to the astonishment of the King. It was on this land that St Brigid built her church.
Today we celebrated St Brigid’s Day by making St Brigid’s Crosses.
Happy St Brigid’s Day!
