Scoil Barra Pupils Take to the ‘Waters and the Wild’!

Fifth Class pupils completed another first for Scoil Barra today by kayaking to their hearts content on our finest local amenity, the River Lee! This new and exciting venture was deemed a resounding success by the elated students on their return to the school this afternoon. They may have been somewhat tired and just a little wet from their exertions on Cork’s greatest river but the abiding memories are of happy moments, lots of laughter, screams of delight and fun and faces that beamed with a great sense of pride and accomplishment. This whole new undertaking was in an effort to provide an alternative experience of the aquatics strand from the current P.E. curricular programme. Ms. Murphy and Ms. Ni Dhonnabháin’s students certainly embraced their new challenge with great zest and positivity. They absolutely loved their kayaking lessons at Inishleena from Head Instructor Jim Kennedy and his very experienced team from Atlantic Sea Kayaking Company. The Inishleena recreation amenity area on the Lee Valley Reservoir, Inniscarra was an idyllic setting for this wonderful experience. A great big thanks to Mr. Murphy for spearheading such a splendid adventure for us all! We simply can’t wait for our next session!!
