Past Pupil and Muster Rugby Star James Cronin Officially Opens Scoil Barra’s 29th Sports Day!

James Cronin returned to a hero’s welcome at his alma mater today as he officially launched Scoil Barra’s 29th Sports Day to much excitement and applause. The staff and pupils of the school are justifiably braggingly proud of James’s achievements in the rugby world in recent years. In fact we would like to congratulate James on his recent call up to the Irish rugby squad for the forthcoming two Test Tour of Argentina which takes place in mid-June. James made his senior debut for Munster in a game against Leinster in Thomond Park in April 2013 and has continued to impress ever since. His early years playing sport for Scoil Barra and for Ballincollig Rugby Club have certainly stood him in good stead! The rugby fans in the school were particularly thrilled with James’ appearance today and the infants were excited to see him as official race starter armed with not a whistle but with the Munster flag! Munster Youth Development Officer, Matt McGrath and Munster Strength and Conditioning Coach, Aidan O’Connell joined in the fun and festivities of the day too! Our thanks to Ms. Marrinan for inviting James back ‘home’ and for chaperoning him on the day. Wishing James all the best in South America! C’Mon Munster!
