June has arrived. Summer has begun.Time to get out there and get active! We have the perfect solution to launching your fitness programme this year! Why not head to the Ballincollig Shopping Centre on Saturday June 20th from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and join in the fun of Scoil Barra’s first ever sponsored ‘Bike-a-thon’. The Parents and Friends Association are staging this novel fundraising venture to purchase a variety of new and exciting sports equipment for the pupils of Scoil Barra. The event was officially launched this week by Munster Star Prop and Scoil Barra Past Pupil, James Cronin. James was joined by our principal Donal O’ Sullivan, PFA members Nicola Radley and James Hussey, our local community guard Liam Lenihan, current Belle of Ballincollig and Scoil Barra Past Pupil Laura Barry, Ballincollig Shopping Centre Deputy Manager John Doherty and some of our own sixth class pupils. Scoil Barra’s ‘bike-a-thon’ will coincide nicely with National Bike Week and National Green Schools’ Bike Week which takes place from June 13th-21st. This week is a special celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling with bike themed events being organised by local authorities, community groups and cycling groups nationwide. Scoil Barra’s gig will see students, parents, teachers, past pupils and local celebrities hop on stationary bikes and pedal like crazy on the day! The excitement is mounting as the big day approaches. Please do drop in and join in the fun on Saturday, June 20th. Be in vogue and revel in ‘Pedal Power’!! We’d love to see you! Ah go on….!!
