The 4th of November 2015, is a day that our boys GAA team will remember for the rest of their lives. It was a huge achievement to get to the Sciath na Scol final and we are very proud of them for doing so. It wasn’t the perfect day for a match but the boys pushed through and put up a fierce battle. The boys were so delighted about getting the opportunity to play in Páirc Uí Rinn that they didn’t worry about the weather. The atmosphere was fantastic and our captain Cormac Keane was quoted as saying “Though it was a tough game and we didn’t come out champions, the support was amazing even when things weren’t looking too good”.
In the first half the boys conceded two goals but never gave up. At half time Mr. Leen, Mr. Murphy and Mr. Stokes must have given the boys a brilliant pep talk because in the second half they produced a fantastic comeback. Morgan Foley scored some well taken frees to get the crowd going and then Jamie Wills finished coolly for a well earned goal. This reduced the margin but in the end time wasn’t on our side. When the final whistle blew the team were heartbroken but we know the boys put up a great battle and did the best they could.
On behalf of the team, captain Cormac Keane would like to thank their mentors Mr. Leen, Mr. Murphy and Mr. Stokes. Finally, it is worth mentioning that we played our part in history as three sets of twins took to the field for Scoil Barra. Well done to the Keane, Kumanzembe and Okpoyo brothers!
