Ms Murphy’s fifth class enjoyed some wonderful local trips recently in glorious sunshine. They were guests of Eason’s Book Store in the Ballincollig Shopping where they met with renowned children’s author, Maria Burke. Maria read some extracts from her beautifully written books to the enthusiastic group and enjoyed a most stimulating question and answer session about the process of writing itself and of her own personal experience in the world of publishing. We would like to express our thanks to Gwen White (Mom of Emma) for organizing such a intriguing and memorable outing.
Ballincollig’s new Allotment Scheme is now up and running and is proving to be a hive of activity. The project was funded by Cork County Council in conjunction with South and East Cork Area Development (SECAD) and Ballincollig Tidy Towns. It comprises 80 plots along with a canteen, toilet facilities and storage areas. Fifth class also enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Allotment Plots where they saw first hand the wonderful array of fruit and vegetables being grown literally over the fence from Scoil Barra. Yvonne Desmond (Mom of Katie)arranged the fantastic tour of this incredible facility for us and we are very grateful for her time and personal input. We may even have inspired some budding new gardeners to grow their own organic produce in the future!!
