Annual Nature Walk 2020

Mother Nature smiled upon us again today when Scoil Barra went on our annual nature walk in the Regional Park. A light breeze and a warm sun raised our spirits as we meandered along the autumnal paths.

All classes completed a circuit of the park, albeit socially distant from our school colleagues and neighbours. With an emphasis on safety and personal responsibility our children’s joyful chatter filled the park reminding everybody that good days are never too far away. Thanks to Ms. Lande for again organising our annual walk and to our wonderful SNAs who organised the treats for every class.

We want to give a special thanks to Donncha O’Callaghan, retired Rugby player, Radio and TV Broadcaster and Author who kindly pre-recorded a video for  the children of Scoil Barra.

Donnacha spoke about the importance of looking after our health and how we can help others by encouraging our family to enjoy keeping fit and healthy with us, just as he does as a mentor on Ireland’s Fittest Family. Donnacha not only gave us a lot of encouragement, he also answered a few questions ranging from his best injury story to his feelings on Cork being the real capital, which of course it is.

Donncha also promised to come and meet us once circumstances permit and we are all looking forward to this. The day ended on a high note with each class enjoying some healthy treats and some extra golden time.
